Report highlights sustainable solutions and compelling customer impact
ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Ecolab Inc. today released its 2013 Corporate Sustainability Report.
This annual profile of the company's commitment to sustainability
highlights how Ecolab partners with customers, NGOs and communities to
help address some of the world's most complex resource and business
challenges.
Ecolab's mission is to provide and protect what is vital: clean water,
safe food, abundant energy and healthy environments. With an
unparalleled combination of service, expertise and innovation, in 2013
Ecolab helped customers across more than 40 industries operate more
efficiently, expand business responsibly, help address regional resource
scarcity challenges, adapt operations to meet changing demands and
achieve sustainability goals.
"Fundamental to our approach is an understanding that real and lasting
change is accelerated when economic, environmental and social benefits
align," said Douglas M. Baker, Jr., Ecolab chairman and chief executive
officer. "This has been true since our beginnings more than 90 years
ago. Today, when the pressure on all natural resources is far greater,
and the expectations for sustainable performance are much higher, our
ability to help our customers do more with less is even more important."
While Ecolab's greatest impact on the world is through the sustainable
solutions the company provides to more than one million customers, the
report also details Ecolab's performance in line with its operating
principles, which include economic progress, environmental stewardship,
safety and community impact.
"Our 2013 Corporate Sustainability Report demonstrates our commitment to
the long-term vitality of businesses and communities," said Emilio
Tenuta, vice president of Corporate Sustainability. "From the way we run
our operations and the solutions we develop, to the services we deliver
to customers and the work we do to advance responsible stewardship of
natural resources, every day our 45,000 associates help make the world
more sustainable."
In 2013, Ecolab helped customers globally and across broad sectors of
the economy reduce, reuse, conserve and treat water. The company's
innovative solutions touched more than seven trillion liters of water
around the world. Ecolab, in partnership with the Alliance for Water
Stewardship, also field tested the beta International Water Stewardship
Standard at two sites within the lower Yangtze, one of China's most
critical watersheds, to help advance global water management practices.
Ecolab has been recognized numerous times for its sustainability
leadership. In 2013, the company was named to the FTSE4Good Index, CDP
Global 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI), 2013 CDP Global
500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) and CDP's inaugural
Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index (SCPLI). Ecolab also was
named to The Civic 50 for its commitment to community and was named to
Ethisphere Institute's list of the world's most ethical companies for
the seventh consecutive year.
Ecolab's 2013 Corporate Sustainability Report was developed in alignment
with the Global Reporting Initiative's G4 guidelines. The report summary
