Ecolab Earns Status as Safe Quality Food Training Center

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jul 15, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ecolab Inc. announced today that its food safety and quality assurance business, EcoSure, has earned the status of licensed training center for the Safe Quality Food (SQF) program. SQF is owned by the Food Marketing Institute.

The SQF program is a leading, global food safety and quality certification program and management system designed to meet the needs of buyers and suppliers worldwide. The program provides independent certification that a supplier's food safety and quality management system complies with international and domestic food safety regulations, enabling suppliers to assure customers that food has been produced, processed, prepared and handled in accordance with globally accepted food safety standards.

"EcoSure is proud to become a licensed SQF Training Center," said Bob Sherwood, Vice President and General Manager of EcoSure. "This is our next step towards better supporting the food industry's adoption of the Global Food Safety Initiative's (GFSI) recognized food safety programs, and continuing Ecolab's commitment to providing food safety solutions to our customers."

Customers who successfully pass the SQF coursework will meet the requirements to become a SQF practitioner and can then help lead the implementation of SQF standards at any food industry facility. Additionally, customers can contract with EcoSure to obtain SQF consulting services and provide additional assistance as food industry operators implement the SQF program.

"We are extremely excited to help the food industry meet its timely implementation goals regarding the SQF program," said Tatiana Lorca, Ph.D., and EcoSure's Manager of Supply Chain Food Safety. As a former employee of the Food Marketing Institute, Dr. Lorca spent extensive time developing and delivering the SQF training program for FMI.

"The SQF standard is the only one of the four GFSI standards to include both a food safety and quality program," Dr. Lorca added. "This means that food producers and processors who utilize the SQF standard get both a safety and quality program rolled into one. It simplifies and streamlines these two programs without jeopardizing either."

EcoSure will be hosting monthly SQF classes at various locations around the country, including Chicago, St. Paul, Minn., and Greensboro, N.C., beginning in July. Courses can also be held at individual customer sites. For more information, contact EcoSure at 866-ECOSUR1 or via e-mail at FoodSafety@ecolab.com.
