Ecolab Scientist Elected Institute of Food Technologists Fellow

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jun 22, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ecolab Inc. announced that Dr. Bruce Cords, Vice President of Environment, Food Safety and Public Health, has been honored by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) as a Fellow of the Institute.

Dr. Cords is recognized for the development and application of antimicrobials widely used by the food industry to control pathogens, as well as for his leadership in assisting the Food and Drug Administration in addressing threats of intentional contamination to the nation's food supply.

"This is well-earned recognition for the extraordinary contributions Bruce has made to the food industry. His research and development for our Food and Beverage Division was foundational - and continues to make a positive impact on food safety--on a global basis," says Susan Nestegard, Ecolab's Senior Vice President of Research, Development and Engineering, and Chief Technical Officer.

While managing research and development for Ecolab's Food and Beverage Division, Dr. Cords oversaw the introduction of Saniglide(TM), the first germicidal conveyor lubricant for dairy plants; Matrix(TM), the first mixed peracid no-rinse sanitizer; and other innovative products that have provided improved performance and effectiveness for critical environments over the past 15 years.

IFT, founded in 1939 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is a not-for-profit international scientific society with 22,000 members working in food science, technology and related professions in industry, academia and government. As the society for food science and technology, IFT brings sound science to the public discussion of food issues.

As a member of several IFT Expert Panels, Dr. Cords evaluated the application of operational risk management to food security; served with a team of experts to conduct Food Defense Awareness Training for various industries; and coauthored the 2006 IFT Expert Report, Antimicrobial Resistance: Implications for the Food System.
